Dental Exams and Cleanings

At Bayside Family Dental Care, we prioritise being transparent with our patients about their oral health needs and goals. One of the hallmarks of our Batemans Bay dental practice is our comprehensive dental exams and cleanings.

Dr Henderson encourages patients to come in for routine, preventive dental exams and cleanings to protect their smiles and maintain their oral health. These appointments are an opportunity to check your mouth’s overall health, diagnose any potential concerns, screen for oral cancer and thoroughly clean your teeth.

We spend as much time as each patient wants discussing their needs, goals and going over any questions or concerns they may have. Each patient is unique, and we value those differences in the highly personalised care we offer.

What to Expect During Your Dental Exam and Cleaning

At Bayside Family Dental Care, we focus extensively on preventing oral health diseases before they have a chance to start or progress. Many of our patients appreciate our thorough approach to preventing and treating dental needs. We are grateful to have patients with similar values and goals for their oral health. Our dental team gathers as much information about you as possible to deliver the best possible care.

The Dental Exam

At Bayside Family Dental Care, our dental exams assess more than your teeth. We also check your gums, oral structures, jaw joints and more to make sure your smile is as healthy and problem-free as possible.

During exams, we do the following:

  • Take digital x-rays
  • Evaluate your gum health
  • Check for signs of gum disease, decay and any other concerns
  • Measure your bite and check how your teeth come together
  • Inspect any dental appliances or restorations you may have
  • Monitor changes in your oral health
  • Check for loose, broken or damaged teeth

We use modern dental technologies and diagnostics to get a more detailed look at each patient’s mouth while also using these tools to show them the condition of their teeth, gums, and oral structures.

Each treatment room has large-screen televisions we use to display a patient’s intraoral images, digital x-rays and more. These TVs allow us to go over each aspect of the patient’s oral health with them, and it also typically diminishes anxiety and fear of the unknown.

The Dental Cleaning

After Dr Henderson performs a comprehensive exam of your mouth, we will thoroughly clean your teeth, gums and mouth. For patients with gingivitis or gum disease, we deep clean the gums to remove plaque, tartar, and other bacteria. Deep cleanings, also known as scaling and root planing, help prevent plaque from collecting in the gum pockets and control gum inflammation.

Our routine dental cleanings allow your dentist to:

  • Evaluate your oral hygiene and offer helpful tips for improvement
  • Remove plaque and tartar from your teeth
  • Polish your teeth to remove bacteria from tooth surfaces and enhance the look of your smile
  • Floss between your teeth, including the hard-to-reach places you can’t clean at home
  • Review any suggested brushing and flossing techniques
  • Apply a fluoride treatment to strengthen enamel against tooth decay

Let Us Help You Discover Your Best Smile

You are the most important person in our dental practice during your appointments. Dr Chad Henderson only books one patient at a time so that we can devote our attention entirely to you.

We believe including patients in the treatment process is crucial for practising exceptional and consistent dentistry. When patients see what’s happening in their mouth and any potential concerns for themselves, they better understand their oral health and treatment options.

This also gives them the opportunity to play an active role in their oral health care so they can make more informed decisions about their treatment.
