Dentures and Partials

Tooth loss affects millions of Australians every year, leading to additional health problems like jawbone deterioration, gum disease and more. Though tooth loss can seem permanent, our restorative dentist in Batemans Bay can return your smile to its fullest potential with dentures and partials.

Bayside Family Dental Care offers high-quality dentures hand-crafted with personalised attention to care and detail. Our dentures can replace missing teeth in the upper and lower jaws, restoring your bite’s function and appearance.

Types of Dentures

There are several types of dentures from which you may choose. However, your dentist can help you determine which fixture will most benefit your oral health and meet your aesthetic goals.

Complete Dentures

A complete denture, also called a full denture, replaces all teeth in the upper or lower arches. It’s a removable prosthesis made from acrylic consisting of artificial teeth and a denture base.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures replace some missing teeth. Depending on the patient’s needs, a removable partial denture may have a metal framework and clasps or connectors to attach to neighbouring teeth.

Implant-Retained Dentures

These dentures attach to implants surgically placed by your implant dentist. The implants are permanent, but the dentures are removable, as they can connect to the implant connectors.

Temporary Immediate Dentures

Temporary immediate dentures are placed at the time of tooth extractions so a patient can still chew, speak and smile while we create their final dentures.

Whatever your needs may be, our dental team can help you find the best treatment option for you.

Benefits of Dentures

Numerous patients consider dentures to be beneficial and smile-enhancing. Here are some of the expected benefits associated with dentures:

Restores chewing ability. Dentures replace missing teeth, restoring your ability to bite, tear and chew food.

Improves speech and pronunciation. Missing teeth can affect how you speak and pronounce certain words. With dentures, you will be able to talk like you did with your natural teeth.

Cost-effective. According to many dentists and patients in the area, dentures may be the least expensive method of replacing teeth.

Enhances appearance. Missing teeth can ruin the aesthetics of a person’s smile. Dentures fill in the empty spaces left behind and complete a person’s smile with prosthetic pearly whites.

Custom-made. We design each denture to comfortably and precisely fit your mouth’s contours and shape. All of our dentures are highly realistic and made to complement your appearance.

Easy to clean. Because dentures are removable, they are easy to clean.

Reduce oral health issues. Having a complete set of teeth reduces the risk of oral health concerns, such as gum disease, additional tooth loss and infection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bayside Family Dental Care offers several treatments to replace missing teeth. Our dental team can help you determine which treatment best meets your needs and lifestyle.

Dentures

Dentures are the least expensive way to replace teeth, and they look natural. However, they can also be a hassle for some patients because they must be removed after each meal for cleaning.

The dentist may need to ingrain notches or grooves in the teeth to accommodate the denture. Patients with gag reflexes may find it challenging to wear the appliance.

When patients first wear dentures, it can feel strange in the mouth because biting pressure on denture teeth differs from natural teeth. Over time, wearing dentures can result in bone resorption in the areas of missing teeth because dentures sit against the gums and don’t stimulate the bone.

Bridges

Bridges replace one or more missing teeth by attaching to adjacent teeth. Adjacent teeth act as a support for the bridge, so one must be careful to maintain the health and structure of these teeth. Like dentures, a bridge sits along the gums and can be removed.

Implants

Dental implants are as close to the function, feel and appearance of natural teeth. Unlike dentures and bridges, adjacent teeth are not affected by the prosthesis. Because implants are in the bone, the bone stays stimulated and healthy. Ultimately, dental implants restore natural biting pressure and quality of chewing while also supporting jawbone health.

Dr Chad Henderson is an implant dentist who places dental implants on-site at our dental practice, so there’s no need to visit multiple doctors for this treatment. Your dental implant procedure can be completed by the same dentist in one location!

Missing teeth are a common problem that many adults face. Whether you are missing a single tooth or several teeth, speaking with a dentist about your best options is essential.

Effects of Tooth Loss

Tooth loss can have a wide range of adverse effects on a patient. Other than the obvious issues of aesthetics, there are possible problems associated with speech, pronunciation and chewing foods.

Other severe medical conditions may also arise. In some cases, the remaining teeth may shift, or bone loss may even occur surrounding the missing teeth.

Missing teeth can lead to increased wear and fracture on the remaining teeth. There’s also a higher risk of developing gum disease and infection when a patient lives with tooth loss.

Depending on what teeth are missing, there can be increased pressure on the jaw joints and surrounding muscles.
