Preventive Dental Care

At Bayside Family Dental Care, agreeing to be a member of our dental family is agreeing to our practice's philosophy. We offer comprehensive preventive dentistry to patients of all ages so your teeth and gums can remain healthy for a lifetime.

Dr Henderson and our team take the time to speak with and educate our patients, so they better understand what’s going on in their mouths. Educating our patients also helps them better prevent oral health issues and improve their overall wellness.

The Importance of Preventive Dental Care

Oral health is fundamental to one’s overall health, quality of life and wellbeing. Common consequences of poor oral health can include tooth decay, gum disease, tooth loss and even heart and lung disease and infection, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. Preventive dental care promotes sustained oral health and a reduced risk for developing harmful health conditions.

Our Preventive Care Services

Our dental team prefers to take a preventive approach instead of a reactive one. We would prefer to stop dental issues before they occur, and we find that many of our patients are healthier and happier to avoid unnecessary treatments. Because of this, we strive to identify, diagnose and treat dental concerns before they progress or pose a risk to your oral health.

Bayside Family Dental Care offers various preventive care services to patients, including dental cleans, oral examinations, periodontal care and patient education.

Dental Cleans and Exams

Our hygienist performs gentle teeth cleans using AirFlow technology, what many dental experts consider the most advanced and comfortable hygiene treatment available. AirFlow therapy allows the hygienist to remove persistent stains, plaque, and discolouration using a combination of compressed air, water and fine powder particles.

We use digital dental x-rays and OPG panoramic radiographs to see any underlying dental concerns undetectable by the naked eye. These x-rays are safe and effective for diagnosing patients and developing detailed treatment plans.

Periodontal Care

To ensure your gums remain healthy, we map out your entire mouth and clean each gum pocket. Cleaning around and below the gumline allows us to remove plaque buildup and lowers your risk for developing gum disease. We also demonstrate how to effectively brush and floss to keep your gums disease-free and strong.

Patient Education

We educate patients and provide information to improve your oral health routine and habits at home. Visual aids, such as puppets and diagrams, help us make dental care more engaging and fun for our patients. Our goal is to give you all of the resources and support you need to keep your teeth and gums healthy, clean and pain-free.

What to Expect During Your Dental Visit

Our dental cleans and exams are very thorough, and we never rush the process. We always make sure you are comfortable and relaxed during your visit, and we offer the following amenities for a more pleasant experience: blankets, neck pillows and stress balls. All of our treatment rooms are equipped with adjustable dental chairs and televisions so you can enjoy your favourite TV show while we care for your smile.

Each new patient at Bayside Family Dental Care usually goes to two to three appointments to receive a thorough oral examination, teeth clean and a discussion of the patient’s oral health needs and expectations. The third appointment during which you speak with Dr Henderson is complimentary, as we want to make sure you are given complete consideration and the comprehensive service you deserve.

Patient Relationships Built on Mutual Trust

Bayside Family Dental Care has served countless families in Batemans Bay, and we value the long-term relationships we've cultivated with our patients over the years. We firmly believe that excellent oral health is a collaborative effort between the patient and our dental team. Each patient must take a proactive role in their dental health to ensure their smile stays healthy outside of the dental office.

Dr Chad Henderson and our team are always here to guide and support you, as well as to treat and help maintain the health, appearance and function of your smile. As a dental practice that focuses on hygiene and preventive care, we encourage our patients to maintain excellent oral hygiene routines and practise healthy habits in their everyday lives. Our team is honoured to be your family’s lifelong dental home, and we appreciate the trust you place in our abilities, experience and service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dr Chad Henderons recommends that all patients visit the dentist at least once every six months for a preventive exam and dental clean. Some patients, like those with gingivitis or gum disease, may need more frequent appointments.

The Importance of Routine Dental Exams and Cleans

Routine dental appointments allow us to catch problems before they develop into potentially harmful conditions. Dental check-ups and preventive treatments are also much more cost-effective than the alternative of root canals or extractions.

Unfortunately, many patients wait until the onset of symptoms, such as tooth pain or a broken crown, to seek professional care from a dentist. The earlier that we can detect these potential problems, the better it is in the long run for our patients.

How Routine Dental Visits Can Improve Oral Health

Routine preventive dental care can reduce the risk of developing several oral health and general wellness concerns.

Dental exams and cleans at Bayside Family Dental Care can help do the following:

  • Prevent tooth loss
  • Freshen breath
  • Prevent tooth decay
  • Prevent gum disease
  • Save money and effort by avoiding extensive dental treatments
  • Keep your teeth white by reducing stains from food, drinks and lifestyle habits
  • Shorten the time spent at the dental clinic
  • Maintain a healthy smile for a lifetime
  • Detect dental health concerns, such as oral cancers
  • Maintain dental work, such as crowns or dentures

Are you ready to arrange your next dental exam and clean? We welcome your call!

Missing teeth are a common problem that many adults face. Whether you are missing a single tooth or several teeth, speaking with a dentist about your best options is essential.

Effects of Tooth Loss

Tooth loss can have a wide range of adverse effects on a patient. Other than the obvious issues of aesthetics, there are possible problems associated with speech, pronunciation and chewing foods.

Other severe medical conditions may also arise. In some cases, the remaining teeth may shift, or bone loss may even occur surrounding the missing teeth.

Missing teeth can lead to increased wear and fracture on the remaining teeth. There’s also a higher risk of developing gum disease and infection when a patient lives with tooth loss.

Depending on what teeth are missing, there can be increased pressure on the jaw joints and surrounding muscles.

Tooth Replacement Options in Batemans Bay, NSW

There are several different options that patients have to restore missing teeth. Treatment options may include dental implants, dental bridges or dentures. The only way to determine the best treatment option for your specific needs is to arrange a consultation with Dr Henderson.

At Bayside Family Dental Care, we offer solutions to prevent and treat tooth loss. Whatever your needs may be, we are here to help protect your smile’s health and appearance for life.

Why Preventative Dental Visits Matter

Why Preventative Dental Visits Matter

At BAYSIDE FAMILY DENTAL CARE, we believe that a lifetime of healthy, radiant smiles starts with one essential habit: regular preventative dental visits.

Many people think of the dentist only when something hurts—whether it’s a toothache, bleeding gums, or a chipped tooth. But by the time symptoms show up, the underlying issue may already be advanced. That’s where preventative care comes in: it’s not just about avoiding dental problems; it’s about protecting your whole-body health and quality of life.
